My first photographic love was landscape photography. Growing up in rural North Dakota, it was also something I always had access to snap some photos of. Taking tens of thousands of photos of the North Dakota countryside in all seasons, helped me to gain a deeper appreciation and even love for my adopted home state.

My love for landscape photography began with a fascination for capturing the natural world’s beauty—from the serenity of a misty morning wheat field to the wildlife that calls the plains home. As I captured the same scenes over and over again, each one getting a little more perfect than the last, I found myself drawn to the dynamic conditions that weather and lightning photography offered, where the drama of a storm or the delicate patterns of lightning snaking through the sky told their own unique stories.

This exploration of the skies naturally led me to astrophotography, where the night reveals a universe of stars, planets, and celestial phenomena, offering a new dimension of wonder and an endless canvas for creativity. My main astro focus is aurora photography, but I’ve been known to take shots of the Milky Way, the Moon, comets, and other celestial objects in the night sky.

Some of my fine art photos can be seen at Applied Digital’s second corporate office in Irving, Texas.

Prior to the house fire and losing all of my digital files, many of my photographs were available as fine art pieces. As I continue to rebuild my artistic portfolio, I will in time be offering fine art photography for sale. Most of my most favorite photos can still be seen on the Instagram account for my travel blog, Chasing Departures.
